Working with parents as partners
Parents are children's first and most enduring educators. When parents work together in earlys years settings, the results have a positive impact children's development and learning (EYFS principals into practice cards 2.2 - parents as partners)
We know that your priority is to find a nursery that offers the right setting for your child and one that also understands the importance of earning the trust and confidence of you, the parent.
We believe that parents must be centrally involved in their child's care and experiences, as such we have developed many systems to ensure you have opportunities share ideas, knowledge of your child, their experience, their lourney jouney and to raise concerns.
Enrollment
Upon enrollement we will begin to gather information about your child, you and their family. This done through discussion with the nursery manager about your requirments and how we can meet them as a setting.
Following this your key person will record information including that of your childs likes, dislikes, needs, diet, and any support they may need in an individual child profile form. ( please settling in for more information of this process)
The start of the journey
Once your child has begun their journey with us your key person will begin to observe their development, acheivements and plan future experiences and opportunities for them. This is all recorded in your childs individual learning journal and can be accessed by you at time and you can ask your key person to make an appointment to disuss your child's progress at anytime.
We welcome parental contributions, and this would aslo include all significant people involved with your child,
Each day your child's key worker will be available for you to give both written and verbal feedback about your child's day and to share any significant acheivements and events.
Parent evenings and family days
We hold parents evenings twice a year and invite you to come along and meet with your key person to discuss all aspects of your childs care. It is also an opportunity to meet with other parents and share experiences.
We also hold family days every 3 months either in the morning or the afternoon to experience a typical day here for your child, have the opportunity to see how we deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage curiculum in your child's age group, get involved in some of the activities we provide for children and the learning value behind these.
Parent representatives
We have in our setting parents representatives whose role is to support parents, support the development of the nursery and plan events to get parents more involved in tehir nursery.
We believe that communication means there is a two way flow of information, knowledge and expertise between parents and staff.
The child care specialist Elinor Goldschmied describes the "Triangular relationship" that needs to develop among early years prqctitioners (primarily the key person), a child's parent (s) abd the child. She chose the image of a triangle deliberatly as each part of the shape is equally important and contributes to the whole.
It is this triangular relationship our partnership with parents policies and the aboce sharing of inforamtion hopes to nurture.
